5-Pitch Champions Crowned

The 1st Annual Capital Softball Association 5-Pitch tournament wrapped up this weekend, with CSA – Yellow (aka the Savannah Bananas) taking home the gold medal in a thrilling 1-run game.

CSA welcomed teams from Stittsville Minor Softball to Queenswood Ridge Park, where a back and forth round robin required tie breakers for teams to advance to the knockout stages. With all the teams seemingly even matched, CSA – Red (aka the Lava Chickens) trailed by 5 runs heading into the final inning. There, they mounted a furious comeback, plating 8 runs to take a 3-run lead in the top half of the inning.

The Lava Chickens then dug in defensively and secured 3 outs before Stittsville could plate a run to advance to the championship game, setting up an all CSA final. Yellow appeared to have the game in hand, before Red once again drove in 8 runs in the top of the 5th inning to tie the game. But a walk off home run from Yellow sealed a narrow 1 run victory to bring home gold for the Bananas, giving a hard fought silver medal to the Lava Chickens.

A massive thank you to all the parents, siblings, family and friends who packed the park all day, at one point having over 100 people on site to watch the games. Thanks also go out to the volunteers who manned the 50/50 booth, and canteen throughout the day, and to the coaches and tournament officials who kept things humming on the diamond.

We’re now looking forward to seeing everyone for our end of year party at the Ottawa Titans game on August 10th, where the winning team will be recognized on the field prior to first pitch.
